TOOL OPIATE2
I was kindly asked by Adam Jones to do a video for Tool's re-release of Opiate. Predictably unpredictably they they decided to make the song about twice as long and I had to adjust to that dance. What fun.
The video took just over a year to make and was completed in Adobe After Effects and Premiere after a 21 day shoot using puppets and a couple of actors: Javier Botet and Rufus White. What you see in the completed video is a combination of the two styles. Shots initially storyboarded, then shot in miniature, then once again life size, all mashed together.
The puppets were made by my old friends at Odd Studio and they excelled, making seamless third scale representations of the full size figures. Absolutely beautiful work. After that was completed, then we flew Javier in.
Charles Mather was the producer on this international production, expertly drawing talent from five continents. Javier Bodet was scanned at DFX by David Marti in a variety of poses which was a huge help. These were then adapted by myseflf in zbrush and 3D printed by x at Pinewood Studios. Kerrin Jackson also provided some extraordinary bladder work and Josh Head providing animatronics.
Behind the scenes footage by Douglas Pledger.
